Our Training Programs
Workforce Dev. & Construction Training
Our program provides a foundation in essential construction skills, including safety practices, tool usage, and basic carpentry, masonry, and electrical skills. We also focus on specific trades within the construction industry, such as plumbing, electrical work, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), and more.
Soft Skills & Job Readiness Training
In addition to technical skills development, we also provide training in soft skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace etiquette to enhance employability. We offer opportunities for ongoing professional development to keep participants up to date with industry trends and technologies.
Job Placement & Career Counseling
We proudly provide all participants assistance with job placement, resume building, interview skills, and ongoing career counseling to help them transition into the workforce successfully. We also offer guidance on how to answer common interview questions and make a positive impression on potential employers.
SWA Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Through hands-on training, you'll gain the confidence to wield a variety of construction tools and equipment, from the simplest to the most advanced. Our instructors will guide you through the intricacies of the trades, from carpentry and masonry to electrical work and plumbing. You'll acquire not just the technical skills, but also the critical problem-solving abilities that set you apart as a construction professional.
We also take pride in fostering a culture of safety that will not only protect you on the job site but also set a standard for excellence in the industry.
As you progress through our pre-apprenticeship program, you'll also receive personalized career counseling and job placement support. We don't just train you; we launch your career. Whether you choose to enter an apprenticeship, pursue further education, or directly enter the workforce, we are committed to ensuring your smooth transition into a fulfilling construction career.

Mr. Edward McKinnie, Sr.
With more than four decades of experience in construction leadership, I established this nonprofit organization with a twofold purpose: to make a meaningful contribution to our community and to provide the next generation with the tools and inspiration to embark on fulfilling careers in the construction industry. Drawing from my previous role as the President of Black Contractors United (BCU), I have first-hand insight into the critical significance of implementing hands-on programs that equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for prosperous and rewarding careers ahead. Throughout my extensive journey in the construction field, I have witnessed the transformative impact that education and hands-on training can have on individuals and communities. We are here to empower and create jobs!
